"There is a Ninoy in each one of us."http://iamninoy.comAbout three weeks ago, De La Salle University - Manila had the "I am Ninoy" campaign from the 24th until the 27th of November 2008. There were different events such as photo exhibits, photo contests, and essay writing contests in lieu of the theme of the campaign. Though I was not able attend any except the Symposium on Filipino Heroism and Launching of Ninoy Aquino Commemorative Stamps in which Former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino was the guest of honor. During her speech, she somewhat reminisced the times when Former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino was beside her. I could vaguely recall the words that she said in her speech but it was clear to me that his husband had no doubts of risking his own life for the Filipinos. When he landed in the Manila International Airport now named after him, he knew that it could be the end of his life yet no hesitations were able to stop him from continuing the battle against the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. The campaign commemorating Ninoy's 25th death anniversary is somehow an eye-opener for the youth today who I think had forgotten the essence of Nationalism, which had saved our country from the violent dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos who had a severe hunger for power. So much so that he did not care whether innocent people were harmed and even murdered without any defense. The "I am Ninoy" campaign is a very effective tool in awakening the hearts and minds of the youth towards the battle for freedom and remembering and knowing how Ninoy's unselfish ways of protecting and struggling for the betterment of the Philippines.The tagline that says, "There is a Ninoy in each one of us." is indeed true. We just need something that would awaken the Ninoy that we have inside us. We should learn how to stand up for ourselves and set the boundaries for those who are attempting to take advantage of us. If each one of us put our efforts together to make our country better then I think it would not be a lost cause.
